Photoshop Tutorial : Recreate Feast of Fools Pics

A couple of days ago I read on Chris Crocker's Bulletin on MySpace that he had an interview with The Feast of Fools. I clicked on the web to listen to the interview, and encountered this pic. Wow, I just learned how to make radial pattern yesterday, so I figured I'd share some of my lame tricks collection in Photoshop, hoho. So, let's start. So I started with opening the pic I wanted to use as the base. I choose this pic cos as I told you before, I love it so so much much. This is the original color, and I don't like it, so I edited some contrast and color adjustment.

First we need to crop it into a square sized 505 x 505 px, just pick on the area you think is enough for you to work on the frames and all. After that, duplicate the background layer. Now I changed the color of the bg copy into the color I wanted the piece to be. This time, of course, I choose purple. Cos it's Danny's favorite color. I did this by adjusting the hue. Now you'll see him in a very strange color, but don't worry, use the eraser tool to delete his body parts (arms, face, chest) slowly with brush type. And merge the layer into the background (Ctrl + E).

Now make a new layer. Fill the new layer with Gradient Tool. I picked some random spots on Danny's background to choose some colors for my gradient effect. And make the gradient diagonally. It'll look like pic on the left.

Now make a new file (File > New) with working area size 10 x 5 pixel and transparent background. I filled half of this area with the color purple using Marquee Tool. Then click Ctrl + A, then Edit > Define Pattern. Name it whatever you wanted to name it.

Now back to Danny's pic, make a new layer on top of the gradient layer. Then click Edit > Fill. Fill it with the pattern you made before on the custom pattern option. Don't freak out, but you'll have like the pic on the left. Now still on the same layer, you click on Filter > Distort > Polar Coordinates. And the result will be the pic on the center. Merge the layers (Ctrl + E). Now change the opacity into 80%. It'll look like the pic on the right.

Make a shape using marquee tool, or if you're lazy but perfectionist like me, you can use Lasso Tool on the original pic to copy the shape you wanted. Bring it to Danny's pic, choose the background, right click and choose Layer via cut. Now put the new layer on the polarized pattern. You can merge all the layers (Ctrl + Shift + E).

Now we'll be working on the stars. Pick a star shape on the custom shape tool. It's not perfectly-shaped, a bit fat but I'm too lazy to search for another one. Make it dark purple, and transform it until you got the right shape, angle and position. You'll have a shape layer, duplicate it. Now rotate the layer copy a little so it shown its corners a little bit. After that, make another star using path selection. This will be the smaller star inside the dark one. After you shaped it right, make a new layer, pick Path > Make Selection. And fill it with gradient tool, with lighter color. There you have all the stars together.

Now we'll be working with the Type Tool. I'm using a font called Eight Track I downloaded at dafont.com. You can find it anywhere else. Type "Danny Noriega" in white, size 48pt, style italic. You can adjust the position as you like it. Then you pick Layer > Layer Style > Stroke. I used darker color I picked from a dark corner on the background pic, size 3 pt. Then on the layer style, right-click and choose > Create Layer. Do another stroke on the new layer, this time I used the same color as the big star, sized 5 pt. Merge the stars, the strokes and the Danny Noriega writing together. Now stroke them again sized 3 pt with lighter color. I used pinkish purple to make it contrast.

Now, you just need to put a name in white on the top of the pic.

So the Danny fandom did a lot to me. I have new friends from all over the world and I love them <3

I was thinking to make a surprise by ordering a special made stamp with Danny's pic on it. So I can send it to my friends later. So I looked up the net and also visited the post office for more explanation and I took the registration form. I found out that you can order it online. So I did. It was supposed to be very cute and I'm sure will be a good surprise for my new friends and Danny if I ever gonna send a fanmail. I even ordered 2 sets of them, with Danny's original pic and with the one I edited myself.

It was supposed to look like this

But then a couple of days later the central post office called me and asked me who is on the pic, was it a famous person? And I said yes. I guess they knew it immediately cos no one is narcissistic enough to get their own photo printed as a stamp. Usually the Japanese had their wedding pic, or baby pic, or even their pet's pic for it.

And they said, if that's the case, they couldn't print it. They're afraid there's gonna be a copyright problem and they don't want to be responsible for it. They asked me if I had the permission. Well, I don't. Cos it's true and I can't lie. I KNOW I'M TOO HONEST, I CAN'T EVEN MAKE A WHITE LIE.

They said, I'll have to contact the management or the person himself to get permission, and after that they'll print it. I was confused. Danny certainly doesn't have any management besides his mom, and I don't know how to contact him, except spamming on his page

I think Danny should have his own laptop and digital camera, so he can keep us, US his fans updated anytime with his latest infos and pics and vids and anything cos basically we can't get enough. NEVER.

And he can get his cousin Ralph to take all his pics and vids, cos we'll be really grateful and love him too :)

I never write anything here in LJ, but now since I'm addicted to American Idol, I frequently visit the americanidol community.
I'm also a member of both danny_bois and dannyftw , communities dedicated to former American Idol season 7 contestant, yes, the one and only DANNY NORIEGA.
